Why is my plant drooping?
Drooping is almost always a water story — but in two opposite directions.
A drooping plant is either thirsty or drowning. Feel the soil. Dry? Water it. Wet? You have a bigger problem.
Work through these.
- 01
Underwatering
Leaves limp and curled, soil pulling away from the pot, light when you lift it. Recovery is fast.
FixSoak thoroughly. Place the whole pot in a sink of water for 20 min, then drain. The plant usually perks up within a few hours.
- 02
Overwatering / root rot
Drooping even though soil is soaking wet. Leaves yellow, stems black near the soil, rotten smell.
FixUnpot immediately. Cut away black mushy roots. Repot in fresh dry soil. Hold water for a week. Severe cases: propagate a healthy cutting.
- 03
Temperature shock
Plant placed near a cold draft, open window in winter, or AC vent. Sudden wilt, leaves may blacken at edges.
FixMove to a stable 18–24°C spot. Most houseplants recover within a week.
