A note from PlantMom

Sansevieria has moderate disease resistance and is more sensitive to humidity and overwatering. It is also more prone to illness when kept in low light and overwatered. Regarding care, Sansevieria is drought-tolerant and can withstand long stretches without watering. It needs little fertilizer and only occasional pruning. This makes it appropriate for people of all experience levels, especially those who prefer to spend less time on plant care or who may be away from home for extended periods. It’s a good option for people who don’t want to invest a lot of time in caring for plants but still want something easy to maintain.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Sansevieria Metallica.

Light

Sansevieria is native to habitats with filtered light, like the understory of forests or rocky locations that offer natural shade. It does best in partial sun but can also tolerate full sun.

Temperature

Sansevieria grows best in warm conditions and needs higher temperatures during the growing season to support its growth and metabolism. It prefers plenty of sunlight, suitable moisture, and good air circulation. However, it can be damaged by very low temperatures and by overwatering. It's important to keep conditions balanced and to avoid both excessive heat and excessive dryness.

Fertilizer

Sansevieria needs only light fertilizing once or twice a year during the growing season. Do not fertilize in winter or in summer when it is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before you begin feeding. Fertilizing helps sustain healthy growth and encourages blooms.

Pot & Repot

When repotting a Sansevieria, pick a pot slightly larger than the current one that provides good drainage. Use a gritty, well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Gently remove the plant from its old pot, brush off excess soil, and set it into the new pot at the same depth. Wait a few days before watering to let any root injury heal. Repot in spring or fall and place it in a brightly lit location.
