Platanus × acerifolia, Platanus × hispanica, or hybrid plane, is a tree in the genus Platanus. It is often known by the synonym London plane, or London planetree. It is usually thought to be a hybrid of Platanus orientalis (oriental plane) and Platanus occidentalis (American sycamore). Some authorities think that it may be a cultivar of P. orientalis.
London Plane resists disease well and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of upkeep, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger plants typically do not need pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. London Plane is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and does not require extensive care experience.
How to keep Platanus Acerifolia.
Light
The London Plane grows best in locations with ample sunlight. It also tolerates areas that receive only limited sun. Heavy shading can inhibit its healthy development, while very intense sunlight may cause slight stress, though it generally endures such conditions well.
Temperature
London Plane is native to temperate environments and requires temperatures from 59 to 100.4 °F (15 to 38 ℃). It prefers moderate warmth but will adjust to a wide range of temperatures when properly cared for across different seasons.
Fertilizer
Fertilize your London Plane in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Regular feeding improves overall health, promoting vigorous development, increased tolerance of adverse conditions, and enhanced resistance to pests and diseases. Keep to a specific fertilization routine for your London Plane to achieve vibrant, richly colored foliage and a lush appearance.
