Phalaris angusta is a species of grass known by the common names timothy canarygrass and narrow canarygrass. It is native to the Americas, where it is most common in Chile and Argentina and can be found in northern South America and sections of the southwestern and southeastern United States. It is also known as an introduced species in Australia. It grows in grassland, prairie, marshland, and other habitat.
Carolina canarygrass is resistant to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger plants typically do not need pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. Carolina canarygrass is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, like a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience.
How to keep Phalaris Angusta.
Light
Carolina canarygrass comes from bright, open habitats and performs best in full sun. It will tolerate partial shade but favors direct sunlight for peak growth. This plant, which can be annual or biennial, is noted for its sun-loving habit.
Temperature
Carolina canarygrass can tolerate a broad range of temperatures, but its occurrence can still be constrained by various combinations of water availability and heat. It performs best in warm summer climates when it receives sufficient rainfall or irrigation. Extended stretches of cloudy, rainy weather, as well as prolonged high temperatures, can raise the risk of Carolina canarygrass dying. During winter, shielding it from cold can increase its chances of survival.
Fertilizer
For optimal growth, Carolina canarygrass needs three fertilizer applications: one before planting, a second about one month after the seedlings emerge, and a final one 1 to 1.5 months after the second. Some Carolina canarygrass varieties also benefit from extra fertilizer applied at planting to promote rapid growth.
