ON THIS PLANT

Corispermum hyssopifolium is a species in the genus Corispermum of the family Amaranthaceae. It is found in dunes and sandy spots along rivers in central and western Europe, and in western North America where it was exploited for its edible seeds prehistorically. An annual plant, it is between 10 and 60 centimeters high. It blooms in July and August. The fruits have narrow wings, of which the nontransparent edge becomes wider at the top, and on which spikes are mounted on a broad base each. The transparent half of the edge is narrow. The top stipules are ovate, with a peaked top.

A note from PlantMom

Corispermum orientale has strong resistance to disease and generally does not tend to get sick. Still, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its surroundings. These infections are generally mild. In terms of care, this plant requires a moderate level of maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to keep a pleasant appearance and healthy growth. Fertilizing can also help stimulate flowering. Corispermum orientale is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Corispermum Hyssopifolium.

Light

Corispermum orientale is native to well-lit, open habitats where it flourishes in abundant sunlight. While it can withstand semi-shaded locations, it has a preference for direct sun exposure for best growth. This sun-adherent characteristic is notable in this plant, which has an annual and biennial life cycle.

Fertilizer

Administering regular, diluted amounts of fertilizer can help Corispermum orientale's leaf development prosper. It is advised to feed Corispermum orientale roughly once a month over the summer period. Nitrogen is essential for leaf growth, and supplying Corispermum orientale with nitrogen-loaded supplements contributes to its success.
