ON THIS PLANT

Baileya pauciradiata is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family which is known by the common names laxflower and Colorado desert marigold. It is native to the deserts of northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It has been found in the States of California, Arizona, Nevada, Baja California, and Sonora.

A note from PlantMom

Laxflower has strong disease resistance and is generally not prone to illnesses. However, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its surroundings. These problems are usually mild. Regarding care, this plant requires moderate maintenance. Regular pruning is necessary to keep a neat appearance and support healthy growth. Applying fertilizer can also encourage flowering. Laxflower is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive care experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Baileya Pauciradiata.

Light

Laxflower comes from bright, open habitats where it prospers in full sun. It will tolerate some shade but favors direct sunlight for best growth. This plant, which can be annual or biennial, is recognized for its preference for sun.

Temperature

Laxflower comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. As a result, it is adapted to high temperatures and moisture. It dislikes abrupt temperature changes and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding indoor temperature swings is important. It typically cannot tolerate cold and needs higher temperatures to grow. If the ambient temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

When most of Laxflower's blooms have fully opened, resume fertilizing. During the period of peak bloom, apply fertilizer every three to four weeks, weather permitting. Then, when Laxflower starts producing fewer new blooms, stop fertilizing—there is no need to feed the plant once it can no longer produce more blooms.
