Aegilops speltoides (syn. Sitopsis speltoides (Tausch) Á.Löve) is an edible plant in the family Poaceae native to Southeastern Europe and Western Asia, which is often used for animal feed, and it has grown in cultivated beds. This plant is an important natural source of disease resistance in wheat, and it is known or likely to be susceptible to barley mild mosaic bymovirus.
Goatgrass shows good resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. In terms of care, the plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger plants usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be trimmed after they finish blooming. Goatgrass is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much prior gardening experience.
