A note from PlantMom

Malayan Teak shows good resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Malayan Teak is suitable for anyone who has an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Vitex Bracteata.

Light

The Malayan Teak is native to open spaces, like bright fields and the outskirts of forests that provide abundant sunlight. It flourishes in Full Sun conditions, however, it can also withstand Partial Sun, showing a good adaptation to different levels of sunlight.

Temperature

Malayan Teak is native to tropical areas, characterized by hot and moist conditions. Consequently, it is highly adaptable to warm and humid climates. Rapid shifts in temperature are not favored by this plant; it thrives in a consistent temperature zone. Hence, one should prevent indoor temperature swings. General cold conditions are not usually tolerated by this plant, and it needs warmer climates to flourish. Should the ambient temperature plunge excessively, the plant could halt growing or even perish.

Fertilizer

The optimal period to apply fertilizer to a Malayan Teak is at the beginning of spring, when it breaks from dormancy. This promotes comprehensive growth and flower formation. Fertilizing improves the appearance of the leaves, stems, and branches, and encourages the creation of large, radiant flowers that last a long time. It also assists in moving nutrients from the roots to the flowers and strengthens the plant's overall health and resistance against diseases.
