A note from PlantMom

Doederlein's spikemoss generally shows good resistance to disease and is affected by relatively few insect pests. Its care is regarded as difficult because it requires a moist environment and frequent watering. The roots, however, are prone to rotting if they are overwatered or if the environment lacks adequate ventilation. Doederlein's spikemoss is suitable for growers with some experience, as most people can keep it alive for a period of time. Even so, it may struggle to thrive, and its leaves can dry out and become less healthy over time.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Selaginella Doederleinii.

Light

Doederlein's spikemoss is native to habitats such as forest understories or rocky areas that provide natural shade. It prefers Full Shade but can tolerate Partial Sun.

Temperature

Doederlein's spikemoss is fairly adaptable to temperature, able to withstand higher heat and wide temperature swings. In hot weather, attention should be paid to watering and suitable shading should be provided to prevent sunburn. Conversely, it has relatively poor cold tolerance; while it can endure some chill, very low temperatures may cause frost damage.
