Schoenoplectiella mucronata is a species of flowering plant in the sedge family known by the common names bog bulrush, rough-seed bulrush, and ricefield bulrush. It is native to Eurasia, Africa and Australia. It grows in moist and wet terrestrial habitat, and in shallow water. It is a perennial herb growing from a short, hard rhizome. The erect, three-angled stems grow in dense clumps and can reach a metre tall. The leaves take the form of sheaths wrapped around the base of stem, but they generally do not have blades. The inflorescence is a headlike cluster of cone-shaped spikelets accompanied by an angled, stiff bract which may look like a continuation of the stem.: 228–30 It is a weed of rice fields in California.
Bog bulrush has strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to it. When it comes to care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be trimmed after they have bloomed. Bog bulrush is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not require a lot of care experience.
How to keep Schoenoplectus Mucronatus.
Light
The bog bulrush does best when it receives continuous light for most of the day. It originates from swamp or marsh habitats, which are generally open and unshaded, so it is adapted to abundant sunlight. Insufficient light can harm its health and hinder growth; conversely, an excess of light causes no damage.
Temperature
Bog bulrush comes from habitats where temperatures usually range between 68 and 100 °F (20 to 38 °C). The plant favors warmer climates and should be acclimated slowly to cooler or hotter conditions as the seasons change.
