ON THIS PLANT

Nymphaea capensis (Cape blue waterlily) is an aquatic flowering plant of the water lily family Nymphaeaceae. Native to Africa, the plant is found growing abundantly in freshwater habitats in tropical regions of Africa, and as an introduced species in Australia, the state of Florida, and other tropical areas. This plant's bulb can survive relatively long periods of time without rainfall in a dry river bed. During the rain season, as the riverbed or bog fills up, the bulb will sprout leaves and flowers. The Cape blue waterlily grows best in full sun to semi-sun and in relatively shallow water.

A note from PlantMom

Egyptian lotus has strong disease resistance and is generally not prone to illnesses. However, it can be affected by pests and diseases present in its surroundings. These infections are typically not severe. Regarding care, this plant needs moderate maintenance. It requires regular pruning to preserve a good appearance and healthy growth, and fertilization can also help encourage flowering. Egyptian lotus is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive care experience. It may need more attention when cultivated indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Nymphaea Capensis.

Light

The Egyptian lotus flourishes with a generous amount of sunlight, which is vital for its strong development. Its original habitat is rich in sunlight, mirroring its fondness for sun exposure. Even in moderate sunlight, it can sustain its life. Nevertheless, both excessive and insufficient sunlight may interfere with its blooming and could result in a generally unhealthy plant.

Temperature

The Egyptian lotus flourishes in climates where the typical temperature ranges from 41 to 95 °F (5 to 35 ℃). It is native to areas with temperate weather and adapts well to gradual shifts in temperature over the seasons. To ensure its most favorable development, try to keep it away from severe temperatures.
