ON THIS PLANT

Lansium parasiticum, commonly known as langsat (), lanzones (), or longkong in English; duku in Indonesian or dokong in Terengganu Malay, is a species of tree in the Mahogany family with commercially cultivated edible fruits. The species is native to Southeast Asia.

A note from PlantMom

Yellow mahogany has strong disease resistance and is generally not susceptible to diseases. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When planted outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning; smaller plants should be pruned after they have bloomed. Yellow mahogany is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Lansium Parasiticum.

Light

Yellow mahogany naturally occurs in habitats like forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can adjust to full sun or full shade, demonstrating its versatility and hardiness.

Temperature

Yellow mahogany comes from tropical areas, where the climate is usually warm and humid. As a result, it is adapted to high temperatures and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature shifts and prefers a stable thermal environment, so it is important to avoid temperature fluctuations indoors. It generally cannot endure cold and needs warmer conditions to grow; if temperatures fall too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

Fertilizing is essential for the care of Yellow mahogany. Regular feeding during the growing season maintains the energy needed for its showy leaves and promotes overall growth. If fertilization is neglected, leaves can become unhealthy, the plant’s ornamental value diminishes, and growth may be stunted or weak and more susceptible to breakage.
