Lagerstroemia subcostata (also known as the Taiwan crepe myrtle) is a deciduous tree which is native to Japan, Taiwan, China and the Philippines.
Taiwan Crepe Myrtle is resistant to many diseases and generally does not get sick easily. In terms of care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Taiwan Crepe Myrtlet is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much gardening experience.
How to keep Lagerstroemia Subcostata.
Light
Taiwan Crepe Myrtle comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, that offer abundant light. It thrives in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to a range of sunlight conditions.
Temperature
Taiwan Crepe Myrtle is fairly adaptable to temperature, tolerating high heat and wide temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, attention should be paid to watering and providing suitable shade to avoid sunburn. Conversely, it has relatively poor cold tolerance: it can endure some chill, but excessively low temperatures may cause frost damage.
Fertilizer
Correct timing is essential when fertilizing Taiwan Crepe Myrtle. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly through early summer. Fertilizer promotes attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.
