Glechoma Grandis

ON THIS PLANT

Glechoma grandis is a species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae, native to southeastern China, Taiwan, and Japan. Although similar to Glechoma hederacea (ground-ivy, creeping charlie), it is a good species. A perennial reaching 20 cm (8 in), it is found in wet areas and near houses.

A note from PlantMom

Ground ivy is fairly resistant to disease and is usually not easily affected by illnesses. Still, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its environment. These problems are typically minor. In terms of care, the plant needs moderate maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to preserve a neat appearance and encourage healthy growth. Fertilizing can also help stimulate flowering. Ground ivy is well suited for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive gardening experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Glechoma Grandis.

Light

Ground ivy is native to habitats like forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate both full sun and full shade, demonstrating its versatility and hardiness.

Temperature

Ground ivy can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but its distribution may still be constrained by particular combinations of moisture and heat. It grows best in warm summer climates with sufficient rainfall or watering. Extended periods of overcast, rainy weather, as well as prolonged high temperatures, can raise the chance of Ground ivy dying. In winter, adequate protection from cold can increase the plant's survival.

Fertilizer

The ideal time to fertilize Ground ivy is in early spring, as it comes out of dormancy and begins active growth. Fertilizing supplies essential nutrients for healthy development. Although Ground ivy has fairly low fertilizer needs, an annual application can improve its survival and encourage better, longer-lasting flowers.
