ON THIS PLANT

Eucalyptus rubida, commonly known as candlebark, ribbon gum or white gum, is a species of small to medium-sized tree that is endemic to south-eastern Australia. It has smooth bark, sometimes with rough bark at the base, lance-shaped or curved adult leaves, flower buds in groups of three, white flowers and cup-shaped, hemispherical or bell-shaped fruit.

A note from PlantMom

Candlebark has strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. However, smaller plants should be pruned after they finish blooming. Candlebarkt is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand much prior care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Eucalyptus Rubida.

Light

Candlebark is native to open habitats, like sunny meadows and forest edges, which supply plenty of light. It does best in Full Sun but will also tolerate Partial Sun, showing good adaptability to different light conditions.

Humidity

This plant will thrive in moderate humidity, which is probably the level in your home. However, misting it a few times a week can be very beneficial. Make sure the room has good ventilation.

Temperature

Candlebark is very adaptable to a variety of climatic conditions, from hot summers to cold winters. However, it does have an ideal temperature range for healthy growth. When temperatures become too high, the plant can experience heat and humidity stress that may kill it. In areas where temperatures near the lower limit of its cold tolerance, insulating the plant is important to protect it.

Fertilizer

Apply fertilizer to your Candlebark in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Consistent feeding improves overall health, producing vigorous growth, greater resilience to harsh conditions, and enhanced resistance to pests and diseases. Keep to a defined fertilization schedule for your Candlebark to maintain foliage that is vibrant, richly colored, and lush in appearance.
