ON THIS PLANT

Eucalyptus cordata, commonly known as the heart-leaved silver gum is a shrub to medium-sized tree that is endemic to Tasmania. It has smooth bark throughout, mostly only juvenile, more or less heart-shaped, glaucous leaves, glaucous flower buds arranged in groups of three, white flowers and cylindrical or hemispherical fruit.

A note from PlantMom

Silverleaf mountain gum is resistant to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. As for care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Silverleaf mountain gumt is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand extensive experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Eucalyptus Cordata.

Light

Silverleaf mountain gum comes from open habitats, like sunny meadows and forest edges, that provide plenty of light. It flourishes in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to various sunlight conditions.

Temperature

Silverleaf mountain gum is highly adaptable to a range of climate conditions, whether facing scorching summers or chilly winters. However, it still has an optimal temperature range for growth. If temperatures climb too high, the plant is susceptible to heat and humidity stress that can lead to its death. In locations where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, insulating measures should be taken to protect the plant.

Fertilizer

Timing is essential when fertilizing Silverleaf mountain gum. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue once a month until early summer. The fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.
