Dacrydium araucarioides is a species of conifer in the family Podocarpaceae. It is found only in New Caledonia. It is a small tree that reaches a height between 3 and 6 metres. The species is common and widespread, particularly in the south of Grand Terre and along the east coast northwards to Houailou.
Dacrydium araucarioides has strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger plants typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. Dacrydium araucarioidest is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive experience in plant care.
How to keep Dacrydium Araucarioides.
Light
Dacrydium araucarioides occurs naturally in places like forest understories and rocky terrain, where it is exposed to natural shade. It prefers partial sun but is capable of growing in full sun or full shade, reflecting its adaptable and robust nature.
Temperature
Dacrydium araucarioides comes from tropical areas, where conditions are usually warm and humid. Therefore it is well suited to high temperatures and humidity. It is not fond of abrupt temperature changes and favors a stable temperature environment, so indoor temperature swings should be avoided. It generally cannot tolerate cold temperatures and needs relatively high temperatures to grow. If temperatures fall too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
Dacrydium araucarioides has particular nutrient needs and does not require heavy fertilization. Spring is the best time to apply fertilizer for optimal growth. Providing nutrients improves its health, increases its resistance to pests and diseases, and supports a long lifespan.
