A note from PlantMom

Fine Stonecrop shows moderate disease resistance but is relatively sensitive to humidity. High humidity makes it more prone to disease, and it can develop root rot while dormant. In terms of care, Fine Stonecrop is drought-tolerant yet requires increased watering during the growing season. Watering should be greatly reduced or stopped entirely during dormancy. Fine Stonecrop is appropriate for growers with some experience, since it can be challenging to care for, particularly during the dormant period. It is especially well suited to those who can spend time tending it over the winter months.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Crassula Expansa.

Light

Native to dry regions, Fine Stonecrop does best in full sun. Its original habitat features intense sunlight and very little shade. It will also tolerate partial sun, giving it some flexibility in growth.

Humidity

This plant prefers dry conditions, so don't mist it. However, watering it less often can also thrive in higher humidity.

Temperature

Although Fine Stonecrop can tolerate some heat, it mostly performs and grows best in cooler seasons and becomes dormant during the summer. In very hot weather, it should be shaded to avoid scorching from strong sunlight. Watering ought to be reduced or stopped in the hottest period to prevent root rot. Its most vigorous growth occurs in winter and spring, and if temperatures do not fall too low, it will keep growing steadily.

Fertilizer

Fine Stonecrop needs only light fertilizer applications once or twice a year during the growing season. Do not fertilize in winter or during its summer dormancy. Reduce the amount of fertilizer for recently repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before applying fertilizer. Fertilizing helps maintain healthy growth and encourages blooms.
