ON THIS PLANT

Cistus clusii is a shrubby species of flowering plant in the family Cistaceae, with white flowers, native to south west and south central Europe and north Africa. It has been wrongly called Cistus libanotis by many authors.

A note from PlantMom

Romerillo is resistant to diseases and typically not susceptible to illnesses. With respect to care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Romerillot is appropriate for anyone who has an outdoor area, like a garden or a deck, and it does not demand extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Cistus Clusii.

Light

Romerillo comes from open habitats, like sunny meadows and forest margins, which offer abundant light. It does well in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting effectively to a range of sunlight conditions.

Water

Romerillo flourishes in a Mediterranean climate, characterized by dry summers and mild winters. To keep it healthy, it requires moderate watering once a week, ensuring the soil is not oversaturated. Being an evergreen, Romerillo needs consistent moisture during the growing season to maintain its lush foliage throughout the year.

Temperature

Romerillo adapts well to a variety of climate conditions, from very hot summers to cold winters. Nevertheless, it has an optimal temperature range for growth. If temperatures rise too much, the plant is susceptible to heat and humidity stress, which can lead to its death. In locations where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, it is important to use insulation to protect the plant.

Fertilizer

Proper timing is essential for fertilizing Romerillo. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly until early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.

Pruning

Romerillo flourishes in dry, sandy soils and sunny locations. Prune the plant in early spring to maintain its shape and encourage blooming. Use sharp, clean tools to make precise cuts just above the leaf nodes, and be careful not to over-prune to prevent the plant from going into shock. Additionally, disinfect your tools to prevent the spread of diseases.
