Alternanthera Porrigens

Alternanthera porrigens comes from bright, open habitats and performs best in full sun. It can handle partial shade but favors direct sunlight for peak growth. This plant, which may be annual or biennial, is recognized for its sun-loving habit.

Alternanthera porrigens is native to tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well suited to high temperatures and humidity. It does not tolerate abrupt temperature changes and favors a stable thermal environment, so indoor temperature swings should be avoided. It is usually intolerant of cold and needs warmer conditions to grow; if the ambient temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

When most of the blooms of Alternanthera porrigens have opened to full size, resume fertilizing. Around peak bloom, apply fertilizer every three to four weeks, as weather permits. Then, once Alternanthera porrigens begins producing fewer new blooms, cease fertilizing; there is no need to fertilize when the plant can no longer produce additional blooms.
