ON THIS PLANT

Adromischus marianiae is a species of succulent plant in the genus Adromischus belonging to the family Crassulaceae.

A note from PlantMom

Horseshoe Adromischus has moderate resistance to disease and is more sensitive to humid conditions. It is prone to illness when humidity is high and can develop root rot during dormancy. Regarding care, Horseshoe Adromischus tolerates drought but requires more water during the growing season. Watering should be greatly reduced or stopped entirely during the dormant period. Horseshoe Adromischus is appropriate for people with some growing experience, though it can be challenging to care for, particularly during dormancy. It is especially suited to those who can dedicate time to its care during the winter months.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Adromischus Marianiae.

Light

Horseshoe Adromischus comes from habitats with dappled light, such as forest understories or rocky areas that offer natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can also tolerate full sun.

Temperature

Although Horseshoe Adromischus can handle some heat, it mainly does best and grows in the cooler months and goes dormant in summer. In very hot summer conditions, provide shade to avoid scorching from intense sun. Watering should be reduced or stopped during the hottest period to prevent root rot. Winter and spring are when Horseshoe Adromischus shows vigorous growth. If temperatures do not fall too low, it will continue to grow steadily.

Fertilizer

For Horseshoe Adromischus, light fertilizer applications once or twice a year during the growing season are sufficient. Do not fertilize in winter or in summer when the plant is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for repotted specimens and wait a couple of months after repotting before applying fertilizer. Fertilizing promotes healthy growth and encourages blooming.

Pot & Repot

When repotting Horseshoe Adromischus, choose a pot just slightly larger than the current one with good drainage. Use a gritty, well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Gently lift the plant from its old pot, brush off excess soil, and place it back at the same depth. Wait a few days before watering to allow any root injury to heal. Repot in spring or fall, and keep the plant in a brightly lit location.
