A note from PlantMom

Water phlox is fairly disease-resistant and usually not prone to illnesses. Still, it can be affected by pests and diseases present in its environment. These problems are typically not severe. In terms of care, the plant requires moderate maintenance. Regular pruning is needed to preserve an attractive appearance and support healthy growth. Fertilizing can also help encourage flowering. Water phlox is suitable for people with outdoor spaces like a garden or patio and does not demand extensive care experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Wurmbea Stricta.

Light

Water phlox comes from habitats with dappled light, such as forest understories or rocky sites that offer natural shade. It does best in partial sun but can also tolerate full sun.

Temperature

Water phlox can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but its distribution may still be restricted by different combinations of moisture and heat. It grows best in warm summer climates with adequate rainfall or watering. Prolonged periods of cloudy, rainy weather, as well as extended high temperatures, can raise the likelihood of Water phlox dying. In winter, protecting it from the cold can improve the plant's survival rate.

Fertilizer

When most of Water phlox's blooms have opened to full size, resume fertilizing. At peak bloom production, apply fertilizer again every three to four weeks, as weather allows. Once Water phlox begins producing fewer new blooms, stop fertilizing; there's no need to fertilize when the plant can no longer produce additional blooms.

Pruning

Water phlox flourishes in moist conditions and needs pruning from early to late spring. To encourage new growth and maintain its shape, remove spent flowers and any damaged stems. This helps improve air circulation, reduces the risk of disease, and supports a healthy bloom, following expert horticultural advice.
