A NOTE OF INTEREST

Viburnum plicatum is a species of flowering plant in the family Adoxaceae (formerly Caprifoliaceae), native to mainland China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. The Latin specific epithet plicatum means “pleated”, referring to the texture of the leaves.

THE NAME

The Japanese snowball, also known as the Japanese snowball bush, is a popular ornamental plant admired for its large, round flower clusters that resemble snowballs. These cultivated varieties are often chosen for their showy, sterile flowers rather than their fertile ones. As the name suggests, this plant originates from Japan, which is how it earned its common name.
