Linnaea floribunda is a species of flowering plant in the honeysuckle family, Caprifoliaceae, native to Mexico. Growing to 4 m (13 ft) tall and broad, it is a semi-evergreen or evergreen shrub with shiny ovate leaves and clusters of tubular cerise flowers to 5 cm (2.0 in) long. Though hardy down to −10 °C (14 °F) it prefers a sheltered location, for instance against a south-facing stone wall. Under its synonym Vesalea floribunda it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Vesalea floribunda is resistant to disease and typically not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding maintenance, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Vesalea floribundat is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience.
How to keep Vesalea Floribunda.
Light
Vesalea floribunda occurs naturally in habitats like forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate both full sun and full shade, reflecting its adaptable, hardy nature.
Temperature
Vesalea floribunda comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well suited to high heat and humidity. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding temperature fluctuations indoors is important. It typically cannot withstand cold and requires warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
The best time to fertilize a Vesalea floribunda is in early spring, as it comes out of dormancy. This encourages overall growth and flower development. Fertilization improves the foliage, stems, and branches while encouraging large, vibrant, long-lasting flowers. It helps move nutrients from the roots to the flowers and enhances the plant's health and resistance to disease.
