Utricularia cornuta, the horned bladderwort, is a small to medium-sized, probably perennial species of carnivorous plant in the family Lentibulariaceae. It is endemic to North America and can be found in the Bahamas, Cuba, Canada, and the United States. Utricularia cornuta grows as a terrestrial or subaquatic plant in marshes, swamps, and pools in shallow waters, mostly at lower altitudes. It was originally described and published by André Michaux in 1803.
Horned bladderwort has moderate resistance to disease and needs a high-humidity environment. Without adequate ventilation, it can be prone to rot. The plant’s care is rated difficult because it requires continuous humidification to keep humidity levels high. It is also highly vulnerable to rot if the surroundings lack proper airflow and become too hot. Horned bladderwort is best suited to growers with more experience who can supply an appropriate growing environment.
How to keep Utricularia Cornuta.
Light
The horned bladderwort flourishes when persistently exposed to generous quantities of light during the day. This light exposure encourages a robust and vigorous growth pattern. In its native environment, it blooms under situations of uninterrupted brightness. The plant might struggle or exhibit retarded growth when there is a light shortage or surplus.
Temperature
The horned bladderwort naturally occurs in regions with temperate weather and flourishes in a temperature range of 68 to 100 °F (20 to 38 ℃). During colder seasons, preserving temperatures within this spectrum promotes ideal growth. Modifications might be required to cope with severe temperature variations.
Pot & Repot
For the repotting of Horned bladderwort, select a pot that's 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) larger and has sufficient drainage. Opt for a potting mix that drains well. The best times to repot are in spring or autumn, making sure the plant's root ball is a bit below the flower pot's rim. After repotting, saturate with water and position it in a warm location that receives indirect sunlight.
