ON THIS PLANT

Tripterygium regelii, or Regel's threewingnut, is a rambling, shrubby perennial deciduous yellow vine native to Korea, Japan and Manchuria. It grows to about 200 centimetres (79 in). Small very pretty yellowish white or white flowers appear in May–June and are produced on 203–229 millimetres (8.0–9.0 in) long panicles, and smell somewhat of new-mown hay. Fruits are greenish white, 3-angled, and winged."Tripterygium wilfordii Hook.f., known as Leigongteng in traditional Chinese medicine, has attracted much attention for its applications in relieving autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, and for treating cancer. Molecular analyses of the ITS and 5S rDNA sequences indicate that T. hypoglaucum and T. doianum are not distinct from T. wilfordii, while T. regelii should be recognized as a separate species. The results also demonstrate potential value of rDNA sequence data in forensic detection of adulterants derived from Celastrus angulatus in commercial samples of Leigongteng."

A note from PlantMom

Thunder god vine is resistant to disease and typically not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Thunder god vine is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Tripterygium Regelii.

Light

The thunder god vine flourishes when exposed to full sunlight for the majority of the day, even though it is capable of living with fewer rays. The sunlight is crucial to its robust development and affects various phases of its life span. Within the environment where it naturally occurs, the thunder god vine develops under plenty of sun. Too much sunlight can provoke stress, whereas too little can hinder its growth.

Temperature

The thunder god vine naturally exists in climates with temperatures between 59 and 100.4 °F (15 to 38 ℃). It flourishes in its native environments, which typically have moderate temperatures. When attempting to grow this plant, it's advisable to mirror these conditions, keeping it warm in the summer and relatively cooler in the winter or autumn.

Fertilizer

In order to encourage robust development, nourish your Thunder god vine at the onset of spring. The routine addition of fertilizer boosts its general wellbeing, leading to hearty expansion, hardiness against challenging environments, and heightened resistance to diseases and pests. Adhere to a particular fertilization routine for your Thunder god vine to guarantee lively leaves with intense color, and a rich display.
