Tecomanthe speciosa is a species of subtropical forest lianes. A single specimen was first discovered on Manawatāwhi / Three Kings Islands, 55 km (34 mi) off the northern tip of New Zealand, during a scientific survey in 1945. No other specimens have been recorded in the wild. Tecomanthe is a tropical genus otherwise unrepresented in New Zealand. Four other species of Tecomanthe occur in Queensland, Indonesia, New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.
The Three Kings vine displays strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. As for care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. The Three Kings vine is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience.
How to keep Tecomanthe Speciosa.
Light
The three kings vine is typically found in environments like forest understories or rocky regions, where it is naturally shaded. It thrives best in partial sunlight but can also survive in full sunlight or complete shade, showing its flexible and robust characteristics.
Temperature
The Three Kings vine has a commendable ability to adapt to heat, being capable of thriving in warmer climates and accommodating larger fluctuations in temperature. During periods of intense heat, it's essential to focus on hydration and create suitable shade to avoid solar damage. However, its adaptability to cooler climates is noticeably inferior. It can endure mild cold conditions, but too much cold can cause damage due to frost.
Fertilizer
The timing is critical when it comes to fertilizing the Three kings vine. Start fertilizing early in the spring and continue on a monthly basis until the beginning of summer. The use of fertilizer aids in the creation of beautiful flowers and supplies energy during both active and dormant growth stages.
