It is now endemic to San Luis Obispo County, California, where it is known from a few occurrences in the marshes around Morro Bay, historical populations around San Francisco Bay have been extirpated.

A note from PlantMom

Annual sea-blite has strong resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. However, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its environment. These problems are typically mild. In terms of care, this plant needs moderate maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to maintain a neat appearance and healthy growth. Fertilizing can also encourage flowering. Annual sea-blite is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive care experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Suaeda Californica.

Fertilizer

A one-time application of fertilizer in the spring is generally adequate for Annual sea-blite, though further feedings can optimize development. Fertilize once every 30 to 45 days. The process of fertilization improves the look and function of the leaves, fostering a steady color and robust texture. It also boosts the growth of roots and the absorption of nutrients, which contributes to the enduring wellness of the plant.

Pruning

The California sea-blite is a salt-tolerant coastal shrub known for its succulent leaves. To maintain its health and enhance its appearance, prune the shrub in early spring. This helps remove dead branches and improves air circulation. Be sure to use sharp tools for clean cuts, as this encourages denser foliage and more abundant flowering, making the sea-blite an attractive addition to coastal gardens.
