ON THIS PLANT

Steveniella is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae. Only one species is known, Steveniella satyrioides, native to Iran, Turkey, Crimea and the Caucasus.Steveniella satyrioides is considered an endangered species in Armenia.

A note from PlantMom

Steveniella typically displays good disease resistance and is subject to relatively few insect pests. Its care is considered difficult because it needs high humidity combined with good ventilation and a low presence of harmful pathogens. Too much watering can cause root rot. Although anyone can grow Steveniella, keeping it healthy and getting it to bloom again requires more growing experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Steveniella Satyrioides.

Light

Steveniella is native to habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can also tolerate full sun or full shade, reflecting its versatile and hardy nature.

Temperature

Steveniella can tolerate a wide span of temperature conditions, though its range may still be restricted by different combinations of moisture and heat. It performs best in warm summer climates with sufficient rainfall or watering. Extended periods of cloudy, rainy weather, as well as prolonged high temperatures, can raise the chance of Steveniella dying. In winter, adequate protection from cold can increase the plant's survival.

Fertilizer

The best time to fertilize a Steveniella is in early spring, as it comes out of dormancy and starts active growth. Fertilizer supplies essential nutrients needed for healthy development. Although Steveniella has fairly low fertilizer requirements, applying fertilizer once a year can improve its survival and encourage stronger, longer-lasting flowers.
