A note from PlantMom

Baby's breath spirea is resistant to disease and generally not easily affected by illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning; smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Baby's breath spirea is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand much gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Spiraea Crenata.

Light

Baby's breath spirea does best in sites that receive ample sunlight for most of the day, though it can tolerate areas with reduced light and some shade. Its sunlight requirements stay the same throughout its growth stages. As in its native environment, both too much and too little sun can hinder its healthy development.

Temperature

Baby's breath spirea is a temperate woody plant that in its native habitat prefers temperatures from 41 to 95℉ (5 to 35℃). In summer it can tolerate temperatures up to 95℉ (35℃), though it is preferable to provide shade and keep the soil moist. In winter it can withstand temperatures as low as -4℉ (-20℃), and to prevent frost damage in colder areas it is recommended to mulch around the plant.

Fertilizer

The timing of fertilization is important for Baby's breath spirea. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly through early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.

Pot & Repot

When repotting Baby's breath spirea, select a pot 1–2 inches (2.5–5.0 cm) larger with ample drainage. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring or fall, ensuring the root ball is slightly lower than the rim of the flower pot. Water thoroughly after repotting and place in a warm spot with indirect sunlight.
