A note from PlantMom

Shortleaf stonecrop has moderate disease resistance and is relatively sensitive to humidity. High humidity increases its risk of disease, and it is susceptible to root rot during dormancy. Regarding care, it is drought tolerant but requires more frequent watering in the growing season. Watering should be greatly reduced or stopped entirely while it is dormant. Shortleaf stonecrop is best suited to growers with some experience, as it can be challenging to care for, particularly during the dormant period. It is especially appropriate for people who can devote time to its care throughout the winter months.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Sedum Nudum.

Light

The shortleaf stonecrop performs best with plenty of direct, unobstructed sunlight, though it tolerates some partial shade. It comes from habitats where the sun is consistently unfiltered. Excessive shade can impair its healthy growth, while too much sun can scorch its leaves.

Temperature

Although Shortleaf stonecrop can tolerate some heat, it primarily does best in cooler periods and becomes dormant during summer. In hot summer conditions, provide shade to avoid scorching from strong sunlight. Watering should be reduced or stopped during the hottest months to prevent root rot. Winter and spring are when Shortleaf stonecrop grows vigorously, and it will continue to grow steadily provided temperatures do not fall too low.

Fertilizer

For Shortleaf stonecrop, give light applications of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season. Avoid fertilizing in winter and summer when the plant is dormant. Reduce fertilizer for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before fertilizing. Fertilizing supports healthy growth and encourages blooms.
