ON THIS PLANT

Salvia viscosa is a herbaceous perennial native to a small area of mountains in Lebanon and Israel. It was first described in 1781 by Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin but only began being sold in nurseries in the 1990s.

A note from PlantMom

Levantine Sticky Sage shows good resistance to disease and is generally not likely to get sick. That said, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its environment. These issues are typically mild. Regarding care, this plant needs moderate maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to preserve a neat appearance and support healthy growth. Fertilizing can also help encourage flowering. Levantine Sticky Sage is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive gardening experience. It may need more attentive care when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Salvia Viscosa.

Light

Levantine Sticky Sage is a perennial herbaceous plant that favors sunny conditions and originates from open habitats, frequently thriving in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.

Temperature

Levantine Sticky Sage can tolerate a wide variety of temperature conditions, but its range may still be constrained by different combinations of moisture and heat. It does best in warm summer climates with sufficient rainfall or regular watering. Extended periods of cloudy, rainy weather or prolonged high temperatures can raise the chance of the plant dying. In winter, adequate protection from cold can increase its survival rate.

Fertilizer

One fertilizer application in spring is generally enough for Levantine Sticky Sage, though repeated feedings can optimize growth. Apply fertilizer every month to every month and a half. Feeding improves the leaves' appearance and function, helping maintain uniform color and a healthy texture. It also promotes root development and nutrient uptake, supporting the plant's long-term health.
