ON THIS PLANT

Searsia glauca (or the blue kuni-rhus) is a small, compact tree or bush that is commonly found along the coastline of southern Africa. Although commonest near the coast, it is also found inland among fynbos vegetation.

A note from PlantMom

Blue kunirhus shows strong resistance to disease and is typically not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding maintenance, this plant is fairly easy to care for. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be trimmed after they finish flowering. Blue kunirhust is appropriate for anyone who has an outdoor area, like a garden or a deck, and it does not demand extensive gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Rhus Glauca.

Light

Blue kunirhus is native to open habitats, such as sunny meadows and the edges of forests, where abundant light is available. It grows best in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to a range of sunlight conditions.

Temperature

Blue kunirhus is quite adaptable to temperature, able to withstand high heat and wide temperature fluctuations. In hot conditions, care should be taken with watering and by offering proper shade to avoid sunburn. Conversely, Blue kunirhus is not very tolerant of low temperatures; it can endure some cold, but excessively cold conditions can cause frost damage.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your Blue kunirhus in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Regular feeding improves overall health, producing vigorous growth, better tolerance of harsh conditions, and increased resistance to pests and diseases. Keep a consistent fertilization schedule for your Blue kunirhus to maintain vivid, deeply colored foliage and a lush appearance.
