Pourthiaea villosa is a species in the flowering plant family Rosaceae, with common names Christmas berry and oriental photinia. It is a shrub or small tree up to 5 metres (16 ft) tall, native to China, Japan, Korea, Indochina, and the eastern Himalayas.
Oriental photinia is resistant to disease and is generally not easily affected by illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Oriental photiniat is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.
How to keep Pourthiaea Villosa.
Light
Oriental photinia is native to open habitats, such as sunlit meadows and the edges of forests, which offer abundant light. It flourishes in full sun but can also tolerate partial sun, adapting well to various light conditions.
Temperature
Oriental photinia is highly adaptable to a variety of climates, from blistering summers to frosty winters. Nevertheless, it has a preferred temperature range for proper growth. When temperatures rise too far, the plant can experience heat and humidity stress that may lead to its death. In places where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, insulating measures should be taken to protect it.
Fertilizer
The timing of fertilizing Oriental photinia is important. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly through early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.
