Phragmites is a genus of four species of large perennial reed grasses found in wetlands throughout temperate and tropical regions of the world.
Reed grass shows strong resistance to disease and is usually not susceptible to it. Regarding care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be trimmed after they have finished blooming. Reed grass is well suited to anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not require extensive gardening experience.
How to keep Phragmites Mauritianus.
Light
Reed grass is a sun-loving perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats, often flourishing in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.
Temperature
Reed grass comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well suited to high temperatures and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a consistent temperature, so avoiding fluctuations indoors is important. It typically cannot withstand cold and needs higher temperatures to grow. If the ambient temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
Reed grass benefits from extra nutrients to foster healthy new growth. In spring, spreading compost around the base of the plant will effectively supply the nutrition it requires. Fertilizing encourages vigorous growth and helps the plant defend against diseases and pests.
