ON THIS PLANT

Philodendron tenue is a species of flowering plant in the family Araceae. It is native to wet tropical areas of southern Central America, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. A hemiepiphyte, it is found in variety of woodland and forest types at elevations from 20 to 2,300 m. Leaf length varies considerably between individuals, possibly to the point of being botanical forms.

A note from PlantMom

Philodendron tenue is largely resistant to disease and typically not prone to illnesses. However, it can be vulnerable to leaf spots if light and ventilation are poor and watering is excessive. The plant's care level is considered easy because it mainly needs regular watering and little additional attention. Philodendron tenue is appropriate for people who lack the time and energy to provide frequent care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Philodendron Tenue.

Light

Philodendron tenue occurs in habitats like forest understories and rocky locations, where it is exposed to natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate full sun or complete shade, illustrating its hardy, adaptable nature.

Temperature

Philodendron tenue comes from tropical areas, where the weather is generally warm and humid. Because of that, it is adapted to high temperatures and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature shifts and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding indoor temperature fluctuations is important. It typically cannot withstand cold and needs warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

Philodendron tenue will need the most fertilizer during its active growth phase, which takes place mainly in spring, summer, and early fall. Fertilization is required to supply essential nutrients that may be deficient in the soil, supporting healthy root and stem growth and attractive foliage, which is a key feature of this particular plant.

Pot & Repot

Repot Philodendron tenue in spring or summer when it's warm enough, choosing a slightly larger pot with good drainage. After repotting, water thoroughly and position the plant in bright, indirect light. Consider adding a moss pole to support the plant as it grows.
