ON THIS PLANT

Pandanus spiralis is native to northern Australia. It is commonly called common screwpine, iidool, pandanus palm, screw pine, screw palm or spring pandanus. It is neither a true palm, nor a pine.

A note from PlantMom

Screw-pine is resistant to disease and, in general, not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors, it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Screw-pine is suitable for anyone who has an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and it does not require substantial gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Pandanus Spiralis.

Light

The screw-pine grows best when it gets abundant sunlight and can also tolerate locations with less-than-ideal light. Steady sunlight promotes vigorous growth; a lack of light may result in stunted development, while too much can scorch the leaves. Reflecting its natural habitat, it is accustomed to substantial sun exposure.

Temperature

Screw-pine naturally occurs in habitats where temperatures commonly fall between 68 and 100°F (20 to 38℃). The plant prefers warm conditions, and efforts should be made to keep this temperature range ideally year-round.

Fertilizer

The best time to fertilize a Screw-pine is in early spring as it breaks dormancy. This encourages overall growth and flower development. Fertilization improves the foliage, stems, and branches, while encouraging flowers that are large, vivid, and long-lasting. It helps transfer nutrients from the roots to the flowers and enhances the plant's health and resistance to disease.
