Olearia traversiorum, the Chatham Island akeake, or Chatham Island tree daisy, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is endemic to the Chatham Islands of New Zealand. It is also known by the synonym O. traversii. It is grown in other areas with mild oceanic climates such as Scotland.
Chatham island ake-ake shows good resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Chatham island ake-aket is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much experience in plant care.
How to keep Olearia Traversii.
Light
Chatham island ake-ake comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, where plenty of light is available. It does best in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, showing adaptability to different sunlight conditions.
Temperature
Chatham island ake-ake shows strong adaptability to a range of climate conditions, from very hot summers to cold winters. However, it still has an optimal temperature range for growth. If temperatures get too high, the plant is vulnerable to heat and humidity stress, which can cause it to die. In areas where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, providing insulation to protect the plant is important.
Fertilizer
Timing is essential for fertilizing Chatham Island ake-ake. Start in early spring and apply once a month until early summer. Fertilizer promotes attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant periods and active growth.
