ON THIS PLANT

Glechoma hederacea is a herbaceous perennial that your might know as the Ground Ivy. this plant has a dense, creeping growth habit, sprouting trailing squarish stems with small, rounded, white, and green variegated leaves. In the spring, spikes of violet-blue flowers profusely bloom above the foliage. This evergreen is excellent for hanging baskets and containers. However, it’s best to steer clear of garden beds and borders, as these plants tend to take over.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Nepeta Hederacea.

Water

Ground Ivy prefers moist conditions; however, it does not like sitting in wet soil. When watering these plants, wait until the top inch of soil dries out before watering once more. Container-grown ivy will likely need more frequent watering than those planted in the ground.

Temperature

Ground Ivy persists throughout the year in environments that boast consistent temperatures between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. It appreciates moderate to moist conditions. It can even tolerate urban pollution and inner-city settings. Bring your plant indoors to avoid exposure to winter weather and damage.

Fertilizer

Feed your Ground Ivy with a balanced, organic fertilizer every 2 weeks throughout the spring and summer. Only fertilize your plant if it’s healthy and not in a stressful condition.

Pruning

You can prune your ivy twice every year to keep it healthy and prevent overgrown, leggy growth. Pinch off or trim stems right above a leaf. You can use these cuttings to propagate a new plant.
