ON THIS PLANT

Nepenthes copelandii is a species of pitcher plant native to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Originally known from Mount Apo near Davao City and Mount Pasian near Bislig, it has since been discovered on a number of peaks throughout Mindanao. It may also be present on the nearby island of Camiguin. The species has a wide altitudinal distribution of 1100–2400 m above sea level. Nepenthes copelandii has no known natural hybrids. No forms or varieties have been described.

A note from PlantMom

Winged nepenthes has moderate resistance to disease and needs a high-humidity environment. However, without good ventilation it may become prone to rot. Its care is considered difficult because it requires continuous humidification to keep humidity levels high. The plant is also highly prone to rotting if the environment lacks proper ventilation and becomes too hot. Winged nepenthes is best suited to growers with more experience who can provide an appropriate growing environment.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Nepenthes Copelandii.

Light

The winged nepenthes plant comes from habitats rich in sunlight, like open marshes and light-soaked wetlands. While its favored lighting circumstances include full sun, it can also withstand semi-shaded conditions.

Temperature

Winged nepenthes perform best in moderate temperatures, akin to those most people find pleasant. They flourish in climates which are not excessively hot or overly cold. The primary concern with elevated temperatures is the potential for sunburn, so it is suggested to provide some shading during the hot summer months to curb extreme heat. As temperatures decline, Winged nepenthes start a dormancy phase. If ongoing growth is the goal, it's important to sustain warmer temperatures throughout winter. Frost could be harmful to the plant and is best to be steered clear of.

Pot & Repot

For the repotting of Winged nepenthes, select a pot that is 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) larger and has sufficient drainage. Opt for a potting mix that drains well. The best time for repotting is either spring or fall, making sure the root ball is slightly below the edge of the plant pot. After repotting, give it a good watering and position in a warm location with indirect sunlight.
