A note from PlantMom

Canallito is resistant to disease and is typically not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Canallitot is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Miconia Xalapensis.

Light

Canallito originates from open habitats like sunlit fields and the edges of forests, where there is plenty of light. It flourishes in Full Sun, though it can also endure Partial Sun, demonstrating adaptability to different levels of sunlight.

Temperature

Canallito comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high temperatures and humidity. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a steady temperature environment, so avoiding temperature fluctuations indoors is important. It usually cannot stand cold and requires warmer temperatures for growth. If the surrounding temperature drops too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

The optimal period to fertilize a Canallito is at the start of spring, when it begins to awake from dormancy. This enhances general growth and facilitates the development of flowers. Applying fertilizer improves the leaves, stems, and branches, and encourages the growth of larger, more vibrant flowers which last longer. In addition, it helps with nutrient transport from the roots to the blooms and augments the plant's well-being and its ability to resist diseases.
