ON THIS PLANT
The Dutch Iris (Iris x hollandica), also known as the Dutch Hybrid Group, or the Fleur de lis, is mildly fragrant and makes an excellent cut flower. It is a spring-flowering bulb that is widely used in floral arrangements around Easter time. Typically, the 3-to 4-inch blossoms are multicolored. The most popular hues are blue, bluish-purple, white, bronze, rose, gold, and yellow. Its name is not derived from its location of origin but rather from the Dutch, who hybridized it. Iris xiphium, the parent species of the Dutch iris, is native to Spain and Portugal.
