A note from PlantMom

The ice-cream bean tree is disease-resistant and generally not susceptible to illnesses. Care-wise, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. The ice-cream bean tree is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Inga Feuillei.

Light

The ice-cream bean tree is native to open areas, like bright grasslands and the fringes of forests, where there is plenty of sunlight. It flourishes in direct sunlight, however, it is also capable of withstanding partial sun, demonstrating a good adaptability to different levels of sunlight.

Temperature

The Ice-cream bean tree is native to regions with a tropical climate, characterized by high heat and humidity. Consequently, it's well-equipped for warm, damp conditions and doesn't fare well with sudden changes in temperature. It prefers a consistent temperature setting and thus, indoor temperature variations should be minimized. This tree generally isn't cold-resistant and needs warmer temperatures to grow. Should the temperature of its surrounding environment dip excessively, the tree may halt its growth or possibly perish.

Fertilizer

Opt for organic fertilizers such as compost or fish emulsion, instead of synthetic ones, for your Ice-cream bean tree. During spring, give young plants extra nitrogen and phosphorus. Integrate compost or fertilizer prior to or post planting. For established plants, supplement their nutrients with a balanced or scarcity-particular fertilizer in spring. A lack of nutrients can result in small leaves, undersized branches, leaves that are yellow or bronze, acidic fruits, early fruit dropping, and splitting.
