ON THIS PLANT

Hypochaeris robertia is a Mediterranean species of plants in the tribe Cichorieae within the family Asteraceae. It grows in the central Mediterranean (Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy and North Africa) at elevations of 300–2,700 metres (980–8,860 ft) above sea level. It flowers from spring to autumn. Each flower head is 18–22 millimetres (0.71–0.87 in) in diameter.

A note from PlantMom

Hypochaeris taraxacoides shows strong resistance to disease and is generally not likely to develop illnesses. However, it can be affected by pests and diseases present in its environment. These problems are usually mild. For care, this plant needs a moderate level of maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to keep a tidy appearance and support healthy growth. Fertilizing can also encourage flowering. Hypochaeris taraxacoides is suitable for people with an outdoor area, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive plant-care experience. It may need more attention when kept indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Hypochaeris Taraxacoides.

Light

Hypochaeris taraxacoides is a perennial herbaceous plant that favors sunny, open habitats and is often found in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can tolerate partial sun.

Temperature

Hypochaeris taraxacoides can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but its distribution may still be restricted by specific combinations of moisture and heat. It performs best in warm summer conditions with sufficient rainfall or watering. Long periods of overcast, rainy weather, as well as extended high temperatures, can raise the chance of the plant dying. In winter, shielding the plant from cold can increase its survival rate.

Fertilizer

One fertilizer application in spring is generally sufficient for Hypochaeris taraxacoides, although repeated feedings can maximize growth. Apply fertilizer roughly every month to six weeks. Fertilization improves leaf appearance and function, promoting an even color and healthy texture. It also encourages root growth and increases nutrient uptake for the plant's long-term health.
