A note from PlantMom

Pointed-leaved hovea is resistant to disease and is usually not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be pruned after flowering. Pointed-leaved hovea is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, like a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Hovea Acutifolia.

Light

Pointed-leaved hovea is indigenous to habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It favors partial sun yet can tolerate full sun or full shade, illustrating its versatility and hardiness.

Temperature

Pointed-leaved hovea is fairly adaptable to temperature, capable of withstanding high heat and considerable temperature fluctuations. In hot conditions, care should be taken with watering and appropriate shading provided to avoid sunburn. However, pointed-leaved hovea is relatively intolerant of low temperatures. While it can endure some cold, very cold conditions may result in frost damage.

Fertilizer

Timing is important when fertilizing Pointed-leaved hovea. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly until early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth periods.

Pruning

The pointed-leaved hovea is an evergreen shrub known for its deep purple flowers and pointed leaves. To maintain its shape and encourage growth, prune the shrub from early to late winter. Be sure to remove any damaged branches, thin out dense areas, and do some light trimming after it flowers to enhance its overall form and flowering potential.
