The waffle plant prefers a moderate amount of sunlight, similar to its native setting where it does well in the dappled light under the forest canopy. Nonetheless, it can adjust to dimmer conditions. Excessive sun can stress the plant, while inadequate light may cause stunted growth.

The waffle plant favors a warm environment and cannot tolerate temperatures below 10 ℃ (50 ℉). It naturally grows in tropical regions where temperatures range from 20 to 38 ℃ (68 to 100 ℉). In summer, keep temperatures between 25 to 30 ℃ (77 to 86 ℉) and, if possible, reduce them to 18 to 21 ℃ (64 to 70 ℉) in winter. During cold periods, avoid positioning the plant near heaters or air conditioning units.

The waffle plant needs the most fertilizer during its active growth period, which is mainly in spring, summer, and early fall. Fertilizing supplies essential nutrients that the soil may lack, supporting healthy root and stem growth and the attractive foliage that is a defining feature of this plant.

When repotting a Waffle plant, select a pot 1–2 inches (2.5–5.1 cm) larger with good drainage. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring or fall, making sure the root ball sits slightly below the rim of the pot. Water thoroughly after repotting and keep it in a warm spot with indirect sunlight.
