Veronica elliptica, synonym Hebe elliptica, is a plant of the family Plantaginaceae. It is native to New Zealand (including the Antipodean Islands and the Chatham Islands), south Argentina, south Chile and the Falkland Islands. It is an evergreen, bushy shrub of 1 m or more in height, with green, oval leaves, 2–4 cm long. Flowers are white to pale mauve.
Boxwood is fairly resistant to disease and is typically not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. However, smaller plants should be trimmed after they finish blooming. Boxwood is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand a great deal of care experience.
How to keep Hebe Elliptica.
Light
Boxwood grows best with plentiful sunlight, though it tolerates lower light levels. Bright, sun-filled sites like its native habitat encourage its growth, while insufficient light can impede development. Its light requirements do not change across growth stages. Excessive exposure can damage the plant.
Temperature
Boxwood is native to temperate environments and prefers temperatures ranging from 68 to 100.4 °F (20 to 38 ℃). Regular temperature monitoring and adjustments in both summer and winter are essential to replicate its natural conditions.
Fertilizer
The ideal time to fertilize a Boxwood is in early spring as it breaks dormancy. This stimulates overall growth and the development of flowers. Fertilization improves the foliage, stems, and branches, and encourages larger, more vibrant, and longer-lasting flowers. It helps move nutrients from the roots to the flowers and enhances the plant’s health and resistance to disease.
