Calathea makoyana, also known as peacock plant or cathedral windows, is a species of plant belonging to the genus Calathea in the family Marantaceae, native to eastern Brazil. Under the synonym Goeppertia makoyana, it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

THE NAME

The Peacock Plant, scientifically known as Goeppertia makoyana, is a tropical species admired for its strikingly ornate leaves, which resemble peacock feathers. This resemblance has earned it the common name "Peacock Plant." The leaves are not only marked with intricate patterns on their upper surface but also flaunt a purplish hue on their underside, making the Peacock Plant exceptionally decorative.
