ON THIS PLANT

Galium rubrum (reddish bedstraw or Caglio arrossato) is a plant species in the Rubiaceae. It is known only from mountainous areas on Switzerland and northern Italy (Valle d'Aosta, Piemonte, Lombardia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna).Galium rubrum is an erect to ascending herb with large panicles bearing many small pink or red flowers.

A note from PlantMom

Wall bedstraw is fairly resistant to disease and typically does not suffer from illnesses. That said, it can be vulnerable to pests and pathogens present in its surroundings. Such infections are usually mild. In terms of care, the plant requires moderate maintenance. Regular pruning is necessary to preserve a neat appearance and support healthy growth. Applying fertilizer can also encourage flowering. Wall bedstraw is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand a lot of care experience. It may need more attention when grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Galium Rubrum.

Light

Wall bedstraw comes from habitats with dappled sunlight, for example forest understories or rocky sites that offer natural shade. It does best in partial sun but can also adapt to full sun conditions.

Temperature

Wall bedstraw can tolerate a wide variety of temperature conditions, but its range may still be restricted by different combinations of moisture and heat. It performs best in warm summer climates with sufficient rainfall or watering. Long stretches of cloudy, rainy weather, as well as extended high temperatures, can raise the chance that Wall bedstraw will die. In winter, adequate protection from cold improves the plant’s survival rate.

Fertilizer

Wall bedstraw benefits from regular, dilute fertilizer applications to encourage healthy leaf development. You should fertilize Wall bedstraw about once per month during the summer. Nitrogen is essential for foliage, and adding nitrogen-rich sources helps Wall bedstraw thrive.
