ON THIS PLANT

Tabernaemontana divaricata, commonly called pinwheel flower, crape jasmine, East India rosebay, and Nero's crown, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to South Asia, Southeast Asia and China. In zones where it is not hardy it is grown as a house/glasshouse plant for its attractive flowers and foliage. The stem exudes a milky latex when broken, whence the name milk flower.

A note from PlantMom

Crape jasmine has strong resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be trimmed after they have finished blooming. Crape jasminet is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not require extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Ervatamia Coronaria.

Light

Crape jasmine grows best when it gets abundant light all day. It can, however, tolerate environments with occasional shade. Strong, unfiltered sunlight can make the leaves brown or curl, while too little light can restrict its growth.

Temperature

The crape jasmine thrives at temperatures between 68 to 105.8 ℉ (20 to 41 ℃). It is native to warm tropical climates and does well in conditions ranging from full sun to partial shade. In colder regions, it can be grown indoors in a well-heated space.

Fertilizer

Fertilization is vital for caring for Crape jasmine. Regular feeding during the growing season helps maintain the energy for showy leaves and supports overall growth. Neglecting fertilization can cause unhealthy leaves, reduced ornamental appeal, and stunted or weak growth that is prone to breakage.

Pot & Repot

When repotting Crape jasmine, select a pot 1–2 inches (2.5–5.1 cm) larger with ample drainage. Use a well-draining potting mix. Repot in spring or fall, ensuring the root ball sits slightly below the rim of the flower pot. Water thoroughly after repotting and place in a warm spot with indirect sunlight.
